Roaming, call forwarding or an internet-based number — what is the difference
In short: Roaming keeps the number on the mobile network and requires an active Israeli plan. Call forwarding moves incoming calls only. A number that works over the internet handles incoming calls, outgoing calls with an Israeli caller ID, and SMS in both directions.
Roaming
The number stays registered to the mobile network, so everything works — as long as the Israeli plan is active and paid for, on top of the rates charged abroad. It is the simplest option for a few days and the most expensive one for a long stay.
Call forwarding
Incoming calls are forwarded to another number. This solves only part of the problem: your outgoing calls go out from the foreign number, and SMS — including verification codes — are not forwarded.
A number that works over the internet
The Israeli number is managed in the system and reachable from the app over any internet connection. It does not depend on an active Israeli mobile plan or on a physical Israeli SIM.
In practice that means incoming calls, outgoing calls with a real Israeli caller ID, and SMS in both directions — from the same number, in any country with internet.
How to choose
For a trip of a few days, roaming is usually the simplest.
For a longer period — relocation, a posting, studies or remote work — the deciding question is usually SMS and verification codes, and that is what separates the options.
